HIS NAME WAS ‘GENTLEMAN’
In the evening, we finally reached the town. Before we headed to
Kusadasi, Ernie went to the sunset point for the last time with Thierry.
I didn’t follow them as I was too lazy to walk anymore. I met the
‘Gentleman’ again. If his name was ‘gentleman’, my name should be
‘lady’. A naughty thought of making fun of him came across my mind
before I left tonight.
I was chit-chatting in the hut with the ‘Gentleman’ & another ‘army’. I
asked him how to spell his name ‘Gentleman’. He led me out of the hut &
pointed the word written on the wall: JANDARMA. ‘Huh, jandarma? What
does it mean?’ ‘It means guard protecting the area here’.
I couldn’t help laughing to my misunderstanding. His real name is Veysel.
He then told me Jandarma is the guard job assigned to the young during
their military service.

FREE CHEWING GUM
We promised to meet Thierry in Istanbul 2 days later after we visited
Kusadasi.
The night coach we took to Kusadasi cost us
TL23,000,000 (around US$16). Each night coach is a long distance ride.
Therefore there are a few stops to rest. I'd go toilet to ease myself at
each stop. We need to pay for the use of public toilet in Turkey. |
They charge differently from US$0.06 to 0.26 (around RM0.2 to RM1)
depends on places.

A receipt from
the public toilet I went in Cappadocia which most toilets won't give.
At one of the stops to Kusadasi, I went to a
shop to buy a roll of chewing gum. They didn't
receive my big notes & gifted the chewing gum to me as a memorial
instead. I was
surprised for the free chewing gum. My heart felt so warm even with the
cool night outside. I was touched for their friendliness.
This 13-hour night coach ride was better than my first one at least no
harassment & I got to sleep more. We finally reached Kusadasi which is a city near the sea
in the morning.
From here, tourists can take a ferry or
boat to the islands of Greece like Samos, Kos etc. The Ephesus ruins
an hour away from here only spent us half day to finish.

We were almost doing nothing but
lazing in the street watching people. There were lots of westerners to
be found on the street. According to some shop keepers, it's much more
crowded before 911 in summer.
THE PROMISE OF REUNION
Back to Istanbul, we kept our promise to meet Thierry at Sultanahmet
area. Today, he’s taking us around Istanbul in his own experience for
he’s been staying here for 2 years before.
